Welcome to the Profit of Education website. Continuing the conversation begun in the book Profit of Education, we discuss the latest economic evidence on education reform.

Getting new teachers started

Richard Ingersoll and colleagues have a new report out (published in Phi Delta Kappan) on how new teachers are helped to develop. There’s some definite good news. Take a look at this picture.

Ingersoll trends beginning teachers

We’ve gone from half of new teachers being given a hand to most teachers receiving support when at the beginning of their careers. Good news indeed!

I particularly recommend Ingersoll’s article as further reading to those in the trenches, because he’s got some helpful advice on which kinds of support work well and which work less well.
